Spinal Extradural Arachnoid Cyst
A 48-year-old male presented with progressive leg weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography myelography showed an extradural arachnoid cyst extending from the T-12 to L-2 levels in the thoracolumbar region. The cyst was confirmed at surgery and completely removed. This surgical intervention achieved improvement in the neurological symptoms.

A spinal extradural arachnoid cyst (SEAC), which is mostly found at the thoracic spine, is a rare disease, accounting for approximately 1% to 3% of spinal tumors. SEAC patients are generally men in their 20’s, 30’s, or 50’s. SEACs are most commonly found in the middle or lower thoracic spine, and less frequently found in the lumbar region, although they can be detected at any lesion of the spin...
متن کاملSpinal Extradural Arachnoid Cyst: A Case Report
Spinal arachnoid cyst is a rare cause of myelopathy secondary to spinal cord compression. We report a case presenting extradural arachnoid cyst of probable traumatic origin leading to irreversible neurological deficits including paraparesis and neurogenic bladder. The patient presented progressive paraparesis and voiding difficulty. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine revealed long se...
متن کاملNon-communicating extradural arachnoid cyst of dorsal spine.
Extradural arachnoid cyst in the spine is an uncommon cause of spinal cord compression in the paediatric population. Most reported cysts have communication with the intrathecal subarachnoid space through a small defect in the dura. The reported child had spinal cord compression caused by a large spinal extradural arachnoid cyst in dorsal spine that did not communicate with the intradural subara...
متن کامل[Spinal extradural arachnoid cyst: A case report and review of literature].
BACKGROUND Arachnoid cysts of spine are a very rare occurrence. The aetiology still remains unclear, but the most accepted explanation is the existence of areas of weakness in the spinal dura. Symptoms depend on the location in the spine. Magnetic resonance imaging is used for its diagnosis. Management depends of clinical presentation, and the surgery is reserved for patients with neurological ...
